To be honest, it is a pain (= lot of work) to set this up though. I sync up to 200GB between a qnap nas (linux), 2 linux desktops, 2 linux laptops, 1 windows desktop an 3 android devices.

Works on Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, OpenBSD and Android. Syncthing can sync multiple folders instead of just one Dropbox folder so Syncthing fits in with my existing file systems and the things I sync are better organized. Dropbox shares everything with every device on your Dropbox account. Data is encrypted while in transit to, and at rest on, our servers. Only with certain computers, other items I share with mobile Android devices and so on. SpiderOak One Backup ensures all your data is protected before even leaving your computer. Syncthing can sync different folders with different devices, so there are some items I share. Every device doesn’t just pull but also pushes files if it is connected (like torrents). They’re also protected by certificate pinning (validation of trusted hosts) to prevent attacks. Your transfers use 256-bit AES encryption and industry-standard SSL. These keys are unlocked with your password. Syncthing is so much faster on local lan transfers no problem syncing larger files (xGb) which is inpractical to do with Dropbox because getting these to the cloud would take too long. SpiderOak One uses layered encryption, so a new key is created for each of your files, folders, and versions of your files. If you don’t necessarily need the cloud part I’d recommend Syncthing. So, I separate syncing from cloud backup. 
I only use it to run own calendars and manage contacts and to share the occasional file with others.
Personally I use Nextcloud on a nas running 24/7 as my ‘cloud’ solution. I am also open for other suggestions in terms of another cloud service that is free and usable across the platforms mentioned beforehand.
